How we like our homemade pizza

For best results, we typically leave the pizza dough in a warm location overnight. For really tasty dough, give it 48 hours.

Base ingredients for your homemade pizza dough

2 1/4 cups (530ml) warm water1 tbsp sugar (17g) sugar1 tsp (5g) active dry yeast (buy)2 tbsp (30ml) olive oil (buy)1 tbsp (17g) kosher salt (buy)5 cups (600g) bread flour (buy), plus more for working the doughAdditional oil for greasing the doughCornflour for dusting the pan

Homemade pizza sauce ingredients

1 tin of chopped tomatoes (440g)2 cloves of garlic0.5 tbsp (15ml) olive oil (buy)Pinch of dried basilPinch of salt1 tsp (5g) sugarParmesan cheese (buy)

1 x ball of mozzarellaDried oregano (buy)

Recipe steps

Homemade pizza – how to do it
  • Preparing the base:
    • Combine warm water, sugar, yeast into a bowl
    • Stir with fork for 30 seconds
    • Wait for the yeast to foam
    • Add olive oil, salt, flour to bowl
    • Mix with wooden spoon until mixture is consistent
    • Add a small amount of olive oil to a large glass bowl and cover its inner surface.
    • Add the dough to the bowl, moving it around so the dough’s surface is covered in a thin layer of oil
    • Cover bowl with cling film
    • Leave for at least one hour, in a warm part of your home, to rise. Ideally overnight
  • Preparing the sauce:
    • De root and peel garlic
    • Combine all sauce ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth
  • Making the pizza
    • Preheat oven to as hot as it’ll go for an hour. Make sure the tray/stone is in the oven
    • Knead the dough until its elastic. It should take 5 mins
    • Split the dough into 4
    • Roll until its as thin as you can get it
    • Spread a pinch of corn flour over the pizza base
    • Carefully remove the tray from the oven and place the base corn flour side down. Place the base corn flour side down on to your pizza peel if you’re using a stone.
    • Put 4 tablespoons of sauce on top. Spread with the back of the spoon
    • Apply a generous layer of Parmesan cheese
    • Dry the mozzarella with a kitchen roll or a tea-towel. Push down gently to remove as much moisture as possible
    • Pull mozzarella apart and place lumps across pizza
    • Sprinkle a pinch of oregano on top
    • Put into oven
    • Take out when cheese starts to brown
